Description
Slowly pulsating vertically through icy-cold seawater, an Egg-yolk sea-jelly, or jellyfish, combs the water for other little jellies while small fish swim around it's tentacles unharmed.
Large Phacellophora camtschatica, commonly known as the Fried-egg jellyfish, Egg sea-jelly or Egg Yolk jelly, usually appears with a large yellow center inside a clear or whitish bell but small ones often lack the characteristic "yolk."
Wild Egg Yolk Jellies are typically infested with parasites along with tiny crabs that clean the jelly. Small fish take refuge around it's tentacles and barnacles hold on for a ride. The Fried-egg jellyfish, and it's hitch-hikers, are eaten by sea turtles, marine birds, and at least 50 species of scaly fish.
