Description
Like a Gollum holding dear to his precious ring of gold, this Egg Yolk jelly (jellyfish) holds dear to it's zooplankton breakfast.
Nematocyst-covered stinging tentacles grasp it's prey but I can't explain the pink coloration. It seems this "Egg yolk" jelly is missing it's yolk but this small Phacellophora camtschatica will develop the characteristic yellow center as it matures.
Jellies are the oldest animals on Earth. Fossils suggest they are at least 500 million years old. Why call them jellies? Because they aren't fish, so scientists are attempting to use more accurate descriptions calling them sea-jellies or simply - jellies.
